NY Delta Updates

SigEp NY Delta Impacts and Response to COVID-19

As many of you may be aware, in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Rensselaer, like many other schools, is cancelling in-person classes.  Instruction for the remainder of the term will be held through on-line means.

Rensselaer is also requiring students to vacate all campus housing and Greek Commons, which includes all fraternity and sorority houses, by March 20th.  Students who cannot return to their home towns, or have other extenuating circumstances, may request a waiver to remain on campus. Those applications will be considered by the RPI administration on a case-by-case basis.

At this time, the Alumni & Volunteer Corporation (AVC) and the Executive Committee (EC) of our SigEp undergraduate chapter are working to make this as seamless a process as possible and to follow the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommendations and other best practices.  We are also engaged with the Alumni Inter-Greek Council (AIGC) and the Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) on these issues.  Members of both the AVC and the EC have participated in briefings with those organizations and the RPI administration.

There are a number of outstanding issues that are being worked through such as potential reimbursement for unused housing and meal plans and whether students who obtain a waiver can stay in their Greek houses.  The AVC will continue to follow this situation closely and provide any needed support to our undergraduate and graduate students.  The safety and well-being of our members remains our top priority.

Additionally, the house formal which was scheduled for April 11th has been cancelled.  The AVC is also discussing whether it is feasible to move forward with our annual picnic, CLAMS, on May 9th.  CLAMS is scheduled to coincide with the end of finals for the spring term.  This year, there will be few or no undergraduates on campus then.  We will provide an update before the end of March on the status of CLAMS.
